The cure for "Timid Decorator Syndrome"

I am always inspired by the graphic patterns of Florence Broadhurst. She was a prolific wallpaper and textile designer who led a fascinating life. Her life ended with her unsolved murder, the real-life facts of which seem very much straight out of an Agatha Christie novel.

A book is currently out about her life titled "Florence Broadhurst: Her Secret & Extraordinary Lives" by Chronicle Books {link here}.

A link to her wall paper prints can be found here

Sooooo - when can I move in?

Ever since I saw these beautiful pictures on my friend, Aissa Gulko's blog, I have been packing my bags and planning to move to Brasil. Maybe I should call and ask if they don't mind having a visitor make an extended stay first?

If architecture and interior design are your things, then I recommend checking out The Brick House on Tumblr. It's pretty much all pictures, with little text explaining what you are being shown, but I guarantee that it will get all your neurons firing.

I have a design crush on Ingo Mauer

I just love lighting designer, Ingo Mauer. So imaginative and inspiring! You can go to his website by clicking {here}, and you can read about his amazing exhibit that was at the Cooper Hewitt a while back {here}. Truly he is one of the great artists of our era.

Campari bottle light.

First and last images: from Ingo Mauer's Cooper Hewitt exhibit, "Provoking Magic". The best images of the show are on Ingo Mauer's site. The design of the exhibition spaces are breath-taking, which will only add to your appreciation of the individual examples of his work.

Planet of flowers and stars

I love the idea of laying under this whimsical lamp by
Ulrika Jarl, then making a wish, and blowing hard.

The House That Brad Built

Before Brad Pitt became a Hollywood mega-star, they say that he was interested in becoming an architect. Looking at these images of his home in the Hollywood Hills, I have to wonder what his work might have been like.

These images were published in Elle Decor July 06, but I just came across them for the first time and wanted to share.

"
The most important thing I learned with this house is you have to let go of a lot of great ideas for the sake of harmony," said Pitt regarding the project. Pitt worked with Lars Kruckeberg of Berlin’s ‘Graft’ architects.

Succulent Wall / Sunset Magazine & Unruly Things

I just love unrulythings.com's blog. Just saw this succulent wall she posted. Such an interesting idea. Apparently DesignSponge also featured it. It originally came from Sunset Magazine.

Wall Sticker Mania

There is a plethora of wall sticker products out there these days - and I just love that there is an alternative to plain walls or busy wall paper. Here are a few images from vinylsilhouettes.com - another resource for your redecorating database.

Bonbon Kakku : Fabric for the people, by the people

OK - so now that you've read my other posts, and you've been to Threadless, and you've checked out Spoonflower, now you are ready for a site that combines qualities of both - it's Bonbon Kakku.

On Bonbon Kakku, you submit your pattern design, other people vote you "hot-or-not" and if you win, your fabric design will be sold at their shop.
I find myself easily mesmerized by fabric patterns - I am not sure why, but it's comforting to know that I am not alone. The designs on this site are downright hip, and make me want to design a room divider, or just frame a swatch for myself.
